MENTOR

Mentors become the sounding board for our children. The benefits are endless for youth connected to and cared for by a mentor who walks beside them throughout their childhood years and into adulthood.

Why consider mentoring?

While LYDIA Home has many opportunities to make an impact, mentoring children at any age and who are preparing to age out of the foster care system. This is one of the most important roles in a foster care child’s life. We need the child to see they can depend on someone, confide in someone, and it’s also why mentors are always needed.

Additionally, through our Safe Families PLUS Pillar Program, LYDIA Home provides trained volunteer mentors with youth residents of LYDIA Home who are aging out of the foster care program. This is to help them have a support person as they head into adulthood and never feel they are alone.

Mentors become the sounding board for our children. The benefits are endless for youth connected to and loved by a mentor who walks beside them throughout their childhood years and into adulthood.

This dramatically decreases many risk factors for youth, the impact of a mentor can truly change the lives of LYDIA Home’s youth for generations to come. Do you feel called?

How does mentoring work?

At LYDIA Home, the impact of mentoring isn’t just for the short term. Mentors are trained to help ensure LYDIA Home’s children receive a real, supportive, caring relationship and continue to support them even after they have transitioned into society as a young adult.

Mentors are paired with youth who could benefit from learning basic life skills and having a connection to a safe adult throughout their life.

The main requirements are:

- Over the age of 18

- Full clearances/background check

- Availability to be with your mentee at least 2 times a month
